Marketing Brief

Purpose

A flexible tool used to plan marketing work including external and internal projects.  This might be for example commissioning an agency or more simply used to clarify work carried out by an individual themselves.

Why

For the purpose of clarity and measurably - particularly a teamwork situation.

Example

With websites and brochures, designers and copywriters need very clear direction at the outset.  Such a brief enables the team to move in the same direction with the optimum number of drafts.

Limitations

For more complex planning we recommend use of the BOSCAM process (Background Objectives Scope Constraints Assumptions and Methods) – see this template download available on the ois website.  Alternatively use of a full project planning tool such as MPI X-pert see our project planning guide.
