A Flying Start

Team South West, the Directorate for the 2012 Games in the South West has made a flying start and their work is firmly underpinned by relationship marketing. Sue Handford of Chocolate Dog Ltd has worked with Team South West for a number of years, during the bid process, throughout the establishment of Team South West and now works with Team South West on marketing and communications.

Secrets of Success You Can Share?

Sue will talk about the development of the South West England Legacy Strategy, the marketing plan and the implementation challenges. Sue will also brief you about the opportunities that exist now to capitalise on the London 2012 Games, in particular Competefor and the legacy secured for business from the Sydney Olympics in South Australia.

   Sue Handford

Sue Handford  and Chocolate Dog Ltd

Sue Handford, started her career with Ford Motor Company. As part of Ford’s business development Sue developed the forerunner to Rapid Fit and worked with Fitch and Ogilvy and Mather to develop brand, marketing positioning, packaging and the advertising campaign that was used in both the UK and Europe (with appropriate adaptations).

Sue returned to the South West as Marketing Director for Plymouth College of Further Education. The next ten years saw the college become nationally recognised as one of the best in the UK, with market research and customer satisfaction underpinning the College’s strategic development. 

In addition Sue was appointed to Boards at Plymouth Sound (part of GWR and Capital at that time) and EnterprisePlymouth (funding and support for Business Start Ups), the Prince’s Trust and various city wide strategic groups for skills development, branding and inward investment.

Two years experience as Marketing Director of a regional IT and business communications Plc followed before Sue joined the Ministry of Defence at the Joint Maritime Facility, St Mawgan for an advisory role as Community Liaison Adviser for the US Navy.

With a wealth of senior marketing and project management expertise across the range of public and private sector Sue has built an experienced team at Chocolate Dog Ltd that work with organisations across the UK.  Sue Handford has developed strategic marketing plans, market research, branding, advertising campaigns, customer relationship management strategies and communications plans, managed and developed events and worked on creative web based strategies.

Sue gig rowing Sue gig rows for Bude Pilot Gig Club and recently competed in the World Championships. Gig rowing is one the UK’s fastest growing sports. She has also recently walked the 295 miles of the Cornish Coast path and enjoys skiing, Glastonbury and reading.
Chocolatedog marketing

The ethos of Chocolate Dog Ltd is to provide high quality strategic marketing expertise and project management to a limited number of clients over the long term. Work ranges from development of strategic marketing plans, market research, project management campaigns and DVD production and event choreography.
