Employee Focus Groups
This is not always possible with smaller organisations or if time is limited. However the principle of planning questions carefully and getting feedback from people before writing a questionnaire makes sense whatever the Survey.
You need to establish first what the issues are. Having done so you might then think about formally issuing a staff questionnaire.
Forming a Staff Focus Group - Suggested Steps
- Select a representative sample of employees - 10 is ideal.
- Set aside 90 minutes to 120 minutes to gather feedback.
- Ask open ended, non-leading, unbiased questions which you have prepared beforehand.
- Do not contribute to the discussion - let it flow.
- Include all members of the focus group.
- Act as an impartial chair.
- Feedback opinions to senior executive.
- Feedback opinions to ALL staff.
- Create an action plan and communicate again to staff.
- Only go down the route of conducting an employee survey or focus group if you are going to act upon the results, and communicate to staff.
NOW you might be ready for an Employee Survey?
